Our Story
In 2021 two moms named Kalyn Heetland and Jennifer Schieuer met at a small local "eclectic" style homeschool co-op group that was just beginning. They quickly realized that their families' homeschool paths were very similar, and they and their children soon became fast friends!
Kalyn and Jenn both used Charlotte Mason style curriculum in homeschooling their own children, and both felt called to create an opportunity for homeschool moms and children to connect and build an encouraging community of like-minded homeschooling families, that could foster both educational growth and close friendships within it.
When the original co-op group that they were a part of dissolved mid-school year in 2022, the decision was made to move any remaining members who wanted to continue with the co-op to a new location in Moville, IA. The remaining group members finished out the school year there, and decided to keep the learning and blossoming friendships going into the next school year as well!
As both Kalyn and Jenn had always dreamt of being a part of a Charlotte Mason influenced homeschooling group, the decision was made to change the co-op's framework from an eclectic teaching style to a Charlotte Mason influenced one, and with the 2023-2024 school year the co-op was officially named "Faith & Field" to reflect the Charlotte Mason principle of educating from a Christian world view of a God who created both the natural world for His glory, and all individuals in His image.
At the start of the 2024-2025 school year, Faith & Field Co-Op moved to Sioux City, IA in order to be more centrally located to the majority of it's members.
At Faith & Field Co-Op we strive to provide both a rich learning environment for our children, as well as an encouraging community for like-minded homeschool parents and families.
How does our Co-Op work?
Here’s what you need to know:
• Co-op classes are designed for students ages 5–18 years old, with nursery and PreK-Kinder classes available for younger siblings as well.
• Co-op is held weekly, from September through May, with a short scheduled winter break.
• Co-op meets at the host location, on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., which includes classes, a snack break, lunch break, and clean up after classes. Families bring their own snacks and lunch and help clean up all classroom or activity areas at the end of the co-op day.
• Parents or guardians are expected to participate along with their students during the co-op day. Students in grades 7 and up will have assigned work to complete at home between co-op days; high school core classes will meet high school credit requirements.
• Parents or guardians are asked to teach, or assist with (if all teaching positions are full), a minimum of 1 class each year. Depending on the number of teacher-parents available in the year, helping with more than one class may be required.
• Registration opens on May 1st and must be confirmed by July 25th for the coming school year.
• Parents or guardians are required to attend the informational meeting & “Meet and Greet” gathering during the summer (usually scheduled in mid-July/early August).
*** A Background check is required for all adult group participants, at the cost of the individual.
Current background checks are to be provided yearly to the Leadership Team. We are happy to provide you with help in finding options for where you can request a background check for yourself.

Registration packets and all fees are due by July 25th.
Fees:
-Non-Refundable Membership Fee — $100.00 per family
This deposit is a yearly payment, to participate in the group, and may be used towards the cost of the co-op’s general needs or activity costs. If you withdraw from your commitment to the co-op, the full Membership fee is non-refundable. Due July 25th.
-Annual Non-Refundable Class & Supply Fees — $40.00 per student, ages 5-18 years old
* $20.00 per student, ages 3-4 years old
* No fee for ages 2 years and below

Statement of Faith:
*For the purposes of teaching at Co-Op, and curriculums being used,
we agree to the following:
1. The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, without error in the original manuscripts, and the supreme and final authority for all of faith and life.

2. There is one God, eternally existent in the three Persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

3. God created the heavens and the earth, including all life, in six literal days.
(Genesis 1; Exodus 20:11)
4. Man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost and under God’s wrath and just condemnation.

5. In the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, who came as God in human flesh, being fully God and fully man, except without sin.

6. In the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His miracles, His atoning death through His shed blood on the cross, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His imminent bodily return in power and glory.

7. Jesus Christ paid the penalty for man’s sin through His substitutionary death, the successful accomplishment of which was attested to by His subsequent visible, bodily resurrection.

8. God, by His grace, offers salvation as a free gift to the sinner to be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal works, but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone.

9. Marriage was designed and instituted by God as the union between one man and one woman. God has commanded that sexual intimacy take place only within that marriage union.

10. God forms each child as a living human being in the womb from the time of conception— distinctly male or female—for His good purposes.

11. Parents are given by God the authority and responsibility to lovingly and wisely care for and educate their children, bringing them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
